Sound familiar?

How women's health usually shows up.

If a few of these ring true, you are in the right place. None of them mean something is badly wrong, and all of them respond to the right plan.
  • Pregnant and unsure what exercise is safe
  • Months or years postnatal and your core, pelvic floor or back does not feel like yours
  • Leaking with running, jumping or a heavy lift
  • Perimenopause or menopause has brought weight change, joint aches and lost strength
  • A DEXA scan has flagged osteopenia or osteoporosis
  • You want to get back to running, netball or the gym and keep getting hurt

Why it happens

What is usually going on.

Hormonal changes across pregnancy, the postnatal year and menopause change how the body handles load. Ligaments soften, the pelvic floor and abdominal wall stretch and recover, muscle and bone are harder to hold onto after 45. None of this means stopping. It means the program has to change with you, and the wrong program is what leads to leaking, prolapse symptoms, pain and injury.
Strength training is the single most protective thing a woman can do for her bones, metabolism and joints through midlife, and pelvic floor aware training makes it possible even when things do not feel robust. We work alongside women’s health physiotherapists, obstetricians and GPs.

What we do

Assess, plan, retest. Numbers, not guesswork.

Every plan at Integral Movement starts with measurement on our force plates and strength testing, ends with a written program, and is retested at six weeks. One clinician, start to finish.

01

Assess

History, stage of life and goals, pelvic floor symptoms, abdominal wall, strength and movement quality, and bone health where relevant. Sensitive, private and unhurried.

02

Program

Pregnancy safe or postnatal progressive strength, menopause strength and impact loading for bone, or a return to running and sport plan with clear criteria. Adjusted every few weeks.

03

Review

Regular retesting of strength and symptoms. Referral to a women’s health physiotherapist or your doctor if anything needs a specialist look.

What the research says

Evidence, in plain English.

We read the research so you do not have to. These are the findings that shape how we treat women’s health. Ask us for the papers at your visit.

01

Australian pregnancy exercise guidelines recommend 150 to 300 minutes of moderate activity each week including strength work for most pregnancies, with benefits for gestational diabetes, blood pressure, mood and birth outcomes.

02

Progressive high intensity resistance and impact training improved bone density and function in postmenopausal women with low bone mass in the Australian LIFTMOR trial, with no fractures in the program.

03

Pelvic floor muscle training is first line treatment for stress urinary incontinence, and combining it with graded return to impact reduces leaking with running and sport.

Who you will see

Accredited Exercise Physiologists, not a rotating roster.

You see the same clinician start to finish. Brad Buisson and Dennis Belios lead the musculoskeletal and chronic condition work, with our dietitian and occupational therapist in the same clinic when the plan needs them. Meet the team →

Funding

Medicare care plans, NDIS, DVA, WorkCover, TAC.

With a GP Chronic Disease Management plan Medicare rebates up to five allied health visits a year. We are a registered NDIS provider and bill DVA, WorkCover and TAC directly for accepted claims. Not sure what applies? Call and we will work it out.

FAQ

Questions about women's health

For most uncomplicated pregnancies, yes, with modifications as you progress. We follow the Australian guidelines and coordinate with your obstetric care.

Gentle walking and pelvic floor work can start early. Progressive strength usually begins after your six week check, and return to running is generally from twelve weeks onward with clear criteria.

Often, yes. Pelvic floor training plus graded impact and strength usually resolves or greatly reduces it. We refer to a women’s health physio when internal assessment is needed.

Strength training is the most effective lever for both, alongside our dietitian for the food side.

Private health extras often cover exercise physiology. A GP care plan applies for chronic conditions like osteoporosis. Pregnancy and postnatal programs are generally private or extras funded.
